✦ Hemisferio Sur
ES·EN·FR

Hemisferio Sur is an independent Spanish school based in Buenos Aires.

We work in a personalised way, starting from what each student already knows, even when their knowledge is minimal.

Our purpose is not to impose a uniform way of speaking, but rather to develop an individual and natural form of expression that builds the speaker’s identity.

We understand learning as a process of development rather than an accumulation of knowledge.

Learning more content does not necessarily mean knowing more if that content is not put into practice. Beginning instead with the gradual expansion of what has already been learned does.

Each student arrives with a Spanish of their own, whether advanced, intuitive or fragmentary. That Spanish is our point of departure. There is, therefore, no single path.

Some need to gain spontaneity and fluency in speech; others need to organise knowledge acquired through experience; and others need to broaden their register or incorporate dialectal varieties of the language.

Our initial assessment is not a placement test. It is an evaluation intended to understand each student’s previous experience, needs, interests and objectives.

Although we have standard learning programmes, we prefer to design tailored programmes and remain open to change. We are not dogmatic. The path can change as new difficulties, interests or possibilities arise.

Language, moreover, is bound to a context that gives it meaning and contributes to the student’s identity. Understanding it also means recognising its cultural codes, registers and ways of understanding the world around us.

Buenos Aires is our point of reference, but the cultural field we have chosen is the Río de la Plata: a plural space shaped by linguistic circulation between Buenos Aires, Montevideo, Rosario, the city of La Plata and other places in the region.
